Child Labor is the Answer

Since Lakyn is grounded I (well really, she,but she doesn’t see it that way) has disappointed her best friend Madison.  A little background here… Madison was just in a very serious sledding accident and really is lucky to be alive (I mean it, she was in a coma).  She is still under the care of a pediatric neurologist  and is not allowed to have any physical activity.  Needless to say, she has a serious case of cabin fever and was thrilled to be given clearance to go to a movie… that’s where Lakyn comes in… you see, she is supposed to go to the movie with Madison on Saturday but can’t because she ran her mouth and was subsequently grounded (by me).  Anywho, Madison is terribly disappointed and so I have decided to let Lakyn ‘work off’ one day’s worth of grounding with 2 days of housework.  You have to understand, Lakyn is allergic to work.  She’s had serious reactions in the past… but so far today she has washed all the windows, emptied all trash, emptied the dishwasher and cleaned her bathroom.  I can’t wait until tomorrow when I get to watch her DUST… yes, dust.  When I informed her that she had to dust she replied, “okay but I have no idea how to do that so I’m going to need you to show me.”  <dear God!>  (At this point if Jay is reading this he’s thinking, “well, damn, now I’m going to have to show Irene how to dust so she can show Lakyn.”)  The catch to all of this is that Lakyn can not complain once about any of this labor -or guess what- the deal is off.  This will be a challenge!

  1. Maybe I’m allergic to work too! Yeah…that’s it. Poor Lakyn. Don’t be too hard on her, mom.

  2. Maybe I should come by for the dust lesson, too. :o )

Sorry I missed you girls at sushi last night. Mo said you were meeting at 8:30 — no way a pregnant chick can wait until 8:30 to eat. HAHA… Raincheck? Hope you had fun.

  3. so how did she do??? you need an update with a pic of her dusting!!! and then you need to send her to my house please… tell her i’ll let her borrow my ipod loaded with tim mcgraw songs while she cleans. ;)

  4. Sign me up for a lesson from Jay too. I can’t wait for my kids to get old enough to working off their punishments! Then I can cancel the Merry Maids.

  5. umm… isn’t that what kids are for?
