I went through our office last week and sorted every piece of paper that I had been storing in one of those big Rubbermaid totes. Many of the papers were keepsakes from the girls but some were old work papers that I threw in there for laughs.

Among the gems I found was this…

Oh boy, after I stopped laughing at the second sentence I realized I would have to blog that letter. Just to be fair to President Bush, Lakyn was not specific when she said talked about honesty… she failed to specify things like Weapons of Mass Destruction, War, and other keywords. And even though I never told Lakyn who I voted for in 2004 she must have added that line about being “kind to the people who didn’t vote for you” just for my safety. Good lookin out kid. (And yes, Lakyn has learned how to spell ’should.’)

Another item I found was a Y2K memo from the television station I worked at explaining how the newsroom would handle any computer issues in case of Armageddon. Thank goodness I never had to whip out that binder of instructions.

And another ironic tidbit I found was an AP wire story on the “Butler Boom” in Ohio. The story is dated March 14, 1999 and because it is copyrighted I can not post it here but the gist of the article is that with the booming economy (in 1999) many families in Ohio were hiring butlers or household managers to help out. Wow, I feel sorry for those butlers now. And think of those poor families who had to fire Benson and start answering their own doors…. the outrage.

And by far the funniest item I found was a reply to an email I had sent to the entire newsroom stating that I had found a pair of earrings and that I was holding them for their rightful owner. The quick ‘reply to all’ came from a guy named Tim Gaier who wrote “And I found a glass eye and wooden leg so please claim them before I sell them to a pirate.” Oh I do miss the newsroom.

This was my TV last night as we arrived home from watching the polls. Oh sweet victory… YES WE CAN! I have to say that Senator McCain’s speech was very heartfelt. In fact, I would’ve liked to have heard him speak that way during the campaign. I was, however, very dismayed by his supporters booing (like children) at the mention of Barack Obama’s name THREE TIMES! Really? Booing? On the other side was President-Elect Obama’s supporters cheering whenever McCain was mentioned.

Two last things and then I will let this election go… why can’t we get rid of this outdated electoral system? We don’t need it anymore. My vote here in Ohio should count as much as any other vote in a state with less electoral votes. And the 2nd is campaign finance. Let’s get rid of it and let the taxpayers foot the bill. Use tax money, split it in half and give each side the same amount. At the end of the campaign, each side has to turn over a detailed list of his/her expenses the same way an employee has to at any other company that pays expenses. It equals the playing field.

I let my girls stay up late to ‘experience’ this election last night. Here they are just before we went to dinner (where we met up with others to watch the results come in). Each was dressed in their red, white and blue. I had made fun of the fact that I can not get both of them to look at the camera and smile at the same time… and this is what I got. The second picture is Lainey mimicking her sister… problem is that she had no book to pretend to read so she just used her hands. Amateur copycat!
